Our homes
Eight houses. One community.
Private rooms, shared tables, 24-hour support, and a garden that feeds the people who tend it.
Our largest home welcomes up to 16 people. Others are smaller, quieter households. All of them are designed to feel like home: bedrooms of one’s own, a kitchen that is used, and staff who know how each person likes their tea.
Daily life
Mornings start with care that is practical and unhurried — washing, medication, breakfast. Then the day opens: garden work, household jobs, an outing to the shops, rest, music, or a visit. Evenings come back to the table.
The garden
With support from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and Casidra, the vegetable garden is both food security and training. Surplus produce is sold to staff and the public at Oude Molen.
Work & skills
Occupational programmes give structure and a wage. They are not a substitute for a life — they are part of one.
The week is built around five workshops. Gardening grows food for the houses and trains hands in the soil. Lavender and beading turns flowers and beads into small crafts made to sell. Knitting and sewing is cloth, wool, and the slow work of making. Paper making is pulp, water, and a sheet lifted by hand. Literacy class is letters, names, and stories, at each person’s own pace.

Includid grew from a partnership to move adults out of long-stay hospitals and into ordinary homes. Today our houses, garden, and workshops still exist for one reason: a full life, lived among friends.
Lavender & beading
Lavender from the garden, beads in a dish, and the quiet concentration of making something beautiful to sell.
Knitting & Sewing
Wool, cloth, and the slow rhythm of making. Useful work done side by side.
Paper making
Pulp, water, and a sheet lifted from the mould. Paper made by hand, one afternoon at a time.
Literacy class
Letters, names, and stories. A class where reading and writing grow at each person’s own pace.
